Like a lot of extreme sports you are going to take some bumps and bashes and chances are you are going to protect your fall with outstretched hands. Cue the gloves.
Cycling gloves are a good choice being thin yet strong, or should the wind decide to drop to polar temperatures break out the chunky goretex (i.e. windproof) variety.
Gloves are relatively cheap and its worth keeping a pair in your kite bag at all times. A lot of road trips have started out sunny and balmy and ended up overcast n' cold by the time you hit the beach.
